Sugar futures are performing well, and the breakout is unfolding much as expected.
Below is the trade alert I sent to members before the breakout and the reasoning behind it.
Long-Term Swing Trade Idea
Sugar (SB Futures) – LONG
(You can also use a sugar ETF if you prefer.)
The chart was about as good as it gets. Sugar futures were testing a major long-term support area after a significant correction while attempting to break out of a multi-month trading range. At the same time, the long-term trendline was close to breaking to the upside.
From a price action perspective, these are exactly the types of setups I look for. Markets that spend a long time building a base often transition into sustained trends once buyers regain control.
There was also a potential fundamental catalyst. Climate scientists expect 2026 and 2027 to be among the hottest years on record. If adverse weather affects sugar production, it could provide an additional tailwind for sugar prices.
Trade Setup
Entry: 15.31
Stop: 13.74
Target: 21.00
Risk Management
Suppose your account is $100,000 and you risk 2% per trade. Your maximum loss would be $2,000.
SB Futures
- Risk per contract: 157 ticks × $11.20 = $1,758.40
- Position size: 1 contract
- Maximum loss: Approximately $1,758 (1.76% of the account)
Potential Reward
- 569 ticks × $11.20 = approximately $6,373 per contract
That produces a risk-to-reward ratio of approximately 3.6:1, meaning the trade only needs to succeed about 22% of the time to break even mathematically. I believe the probability of success is significantly higher than that.
As always, adjust your position size according to your own risk tolerance.
Final Note
These updates reflect structured trade management and probability-based analysis, not financial advice.
I may exit and re-enter positions during a trade as new information becomes available. If you don’t have the time, or simply prefer a more hands-off approach, sticking to your original stop will generally produce similar long-term results. Most of these adjustments tend to balance out over time.
Risk management and position sizing remain the foundation of long-term survival.
