Palantir ($PLTR) remains one of the most interesting stocks in the market. The company continues to deliver exceptional growth, while its valuation remains among the most expensive in the S&P 500.
That creates an interesting question for traders and investors: Should you buy $PLTR, short it, or simply wait?
The Bull Case for PLTR
Palantir continues to benefit from strong demand for artificial intelligence. The company’s AI platform is helping drive growth across both its commercial and government businesses.
The market is also rewarding that growth aggressively.
As long as Palantir continues to exceed expectations and deliver exceptional growth, the stock can remain expensive for much longer than bears expect.
That is why valuation alone is rarely enough to justify a short position.
The Bear Case: An Extremely Expensive Valuation
At the same time, PLTR’s valuation leaves very little room for disappointment.
The stock is trading at a valuation that already prices in years of exceptional growth. If revenue growth slows or expectations become too optimistic, the downside can be significant.
That does not mean the business is weak. A great company can still become a poor investment if the price becomes too expensive.
Should You Buy PLTR?
Buying after a strong move higher can offer poor risk/reward, even when the long-term outlook remains bullish.
The best opportunity may be to wait for a pullback or a period of consolidation that creates a clearer entry and better-defined risk.
Should You Short PLTR?
Shorting PLTR simply because it looks expensive is also risky.
Strong growth stocks can remain overvalued for years, and momentum can continue to push the stock significantly higher.
For a short trade, I would want to see the chart confirm that buyers are losing control.
The Best Approach: Wait for Better Risk/Reward
For now, the most important question is not whether Palantir is a good company.
It clearly is.
The question is whether the current price offers good enough risk/reward.
With strong growth on one side and an extreme valuation on the other, PLTR is a stock where patience can be valuable.
The chart will eventually provide a clearer answer. Until then, the best trade may simply be waiting.
