NVIDIA Stock Forecast: Will the Double Bottom Hold, or Is Another Sell-Off Coming?

oktober 21, 2026 · 6 min read

NVIDIA (NVDA) has recently formed what appears to be a double bottom, fueled by renewed optimism surrounding artificial intelligence (AI). At first glance, this technical pattern could signal a bullish reversal. However, there is a major warning sign that investors should not ignore: each successive rally is showing signs of weakening buying momentum.

While many traders may see the double bottom as an opportunity to buy, I believe the pattern could fail. Here’s why NVIDIA’s price action suggests that sellers may be gaining control and why another downturn could be on the horizon.

NVIDIA’s Double Bottom: A Bullish Signal or a Potential Trap?

A double bottom is a technical chart pattern that typically forms when a stock tests a support level twice before attempting to move higher. Traders often interpret this formation as a sign that selling pressure is fading and a bullish reversal may be approaching.

NVIDIA’s apparent double bottom has attracted attention amid renewed optimism about AI growth and the semiconductor sector.

However, a double bottom alone does not guarantee that a stock has reached its lowest point.

To determine whether this pattern is likely to hold, investors should look beyond the formation itself and examine the strength of each subsequent rally. This is where NVIDIA’s chart raises concerns.

Why NVIDIA’s Lower-Momentum Rallies Are a Warning Sign

One of the most important signals in NVIDIA’s recent price action is the declining strength of successive upward moves.

Initially, the stock managed to establish a strong higher high. Buyers appeared to have control, pushing prices convincingly above previous peaks.

But the rallies that followed began to lose momentum.

This progression matters because healthy uptrends generally require buyers to keep pushing prices higher with conviction.

When each rally becomes weaker and attempts to break previous highs repeatedly fail, it can indicate that demand is losing strength while selling pressure is increasing.

Although this pattern does not prove that a decline is inevitable, it is a warning sign that bullish momentum may be deteriorating.

Repeated Failed Highs Suggest Sellers Are Gaining Control

The same behavior can be observed in earlier periods of NVIDIA’s price history.

In some instances, the stock produced several strong higher highs before its upward momentum began to fade. Subsequent rallies became progressively weaker, and eventually, the stock struggled to break above previous peaks.

This type of price action can reveal a shift in market dynamics.

When buyers are strong, they tend to absorb selling pressure and push prices into new territory. When buyers begin to lose control, rallies often stall sooner, breakouts fail, and the stock becomes increasingly vulnerable to a reversal.

The key observation is not simply that NVIDIA is struggling to make new highs. It is that repeated attempts to move higher appear to be losing strength over time.

If this behavior continues, the apparent double bottom could fail to produce the sustained recovery that bullish traders are expecting.

Can AI Optimism Save NVIDIA Stock?

Positive AI headlines could certainly provide a short-term boost to NVIDIA’s share price.

The company’s position in the AI semiconductor market means that developments in AI infrastructure spending, data-center demand, and investor expectations can significantly influence market sentiment.

Likewise, easing geopolitical tensions, including developments involving the war in Ukraine and the conflict involving Iran, could improve broader investor confidence if they reduce perceived economic and market risks.

Under an especially bullish scenario, these developments could help NVIDIA break above its recent highs.

However, there is an important distinction between a temporary rally and a sustainable trend reversal.

Even if positive headlines push NVIDIA to a new high, the underlying technical concern remains: will buyers have enough strength to sustain the breakout?

A brief move above resistance followed by another failure would reinforce the bearish interpretation rather than invalidate it.

For a more convincing bullish reversal, traders would want to see stronger upward momentum, a sustained break above relevant resistance, and follow-through buying rather than another short-lived rally.

Why the NVIDIA Double Bottom Could Fail

There are several reasons to remain cautious about assuming NVIDIA has established a durable bottom.

1. Declining momentum

Successive rallies appear to be losing strength, suggesting that buyers may be struggling to maintain upward pressure.

2. Repeated failed breakouts

When the stock repeatedly approaches previous highs without establishing a sustained move above them, resistance may be proving difficult to overcome.

3. Increasing vulnerability to selling pressure

If buyers become less aggressive while sellers remain active near resistance, the stock could struggle to sustain a recovery.

4. Bullish headlines may not resolve the technical weakness

Positive AI news or improving geopolitical conditions can support prices, but they do not automatically guarantee a lasting change in market structure.

These factors do not establish that NVIDIA must decline. They do, however, provide reasons to question whether the current double bottom is strong enough to support a lasting bullish reversal.

NVIDIA Stock Forecast: Could Another Decline Happen in 2026 or Early 2027?

My current technical interpretation is that NVIDIA’s apparent double bottom may be less reliable than it initially appears.

Rather than assuming that the stock is preparing for another sustained rally, I believe traders should pay close attention to the weakening rallies and repeated failures to establish higher highs.

My bearish scenario is that NVIDIA could roll over again before the end of 2026. If the pattern takes longer to develop, weakness could potentially extend into early 2027.

This is a technical outlook, not a certainty. The actual outcome will depend on future price action, market conditions, company results, AI-related demand, and broader investor sentiment.

The key question is whether NVIDIA can demonstrate renewed buying strength or whether another rally will fail as previous attempts have.

A sustained breakout with convincing follow-through would weaken the bearish thesis. Another failed attempt to break resistance would strengthen it.

Final Thoughts: Is NVIDIA’s Bottom Really In?

NVIDIA’s apparent double bottom may look bullish, but the pattern should not be evaluated in isolation.

The more important signal is the apparent deterioration in the strength of successive rallies. When higher highs become progressively weaker and attempts to break resistance repeatedly fail, traders have reason to question the sustainability of the recovery.

Even the most favorable combination of AI optimism and improving geopolitical conditions may not be enough to guarantee a lasting breakout if the underlying price structure remains weak.

For now, I believe another decline is a plausible scenario, potentially occurring before the end of 2026 or in early 2027. The next decisive move will help determine whether buyers can regain control or whether sellers will push the stock lower again.

What do you think? Will NVIDIA’s double bottom hold, or are we heading for another sell-off? Share your thoughts in the comments. I would be interested to hear both bullish and bearish perspectives.
